Aguirre papers, 1859-1976 (bulk 1907-1975).

Correspondence, manuscripts, notebooks, clippings and financial records relating to the history and activities of the Aguirre family in cattle ranching. The collection is valuable for its description of overland freighting and development of some of the largest ranches in the area. Business records consist of correspondence and financial records concerning expenses, supplies, salaries, as well as cattle inspections, brands, and buying and selling of cattle. The majority of the manuscripts are memoirs by Mary Bernard Aguirre, written between 1870 and 1901, which discuss early travel, social life, Indian attacks, local Arizona names, Indian customs, and public schools in Tucson in the 1870s. Also present is genealogical material and family history.
